2019-2020

Another New Year

Although we do “school” year round, our year begins on August 1. We spent this week fresh off of vacation. We were in Florida, and we had also taken a cruise to the Bahamas! This was a great adventure, but it’s time to get back to cracking.

Penguin is 7.5 and starting 2nd grade. Panda is 4.5 and will be in PreK for another year.

I intend on starting off slowly, but just easing into 1-2 day per week lessons until September starts. I want to get Penguin’s handwriting corrected, and some basic math facts solidified. I also want to make sure she has enough “sight words” in her arsenal.

Panda, well, she’s already so far ahead for her age that it seems silly not to just teach her to read at this point. But for August, we will be working on soft skills like pencil grip and using scissors.

For extra curricular activities, neither wants to continue on with swimming, but they both still want gymnastics. Penguin wants to do martial arts (I am thinking Jiu Jitsu), and voice. I want to add piano into that, but not sure if I can afford it yet. Panda wants to add a dance class. We will still do Young Artists Klub at Art Quest in Greensboro, and we might be founding members of Quest Club organized in Pfafftown.

Penguin will continue on with Spanish, and I think I will get them both doing recorder. Not sure about that yet.

I am hoping to find a one day per week activity where I can drop off both of the girls. I was hopeful for a co-op out in Charlotte, but we are already at the beginning of the school year, so we might have missed the boat. In any event, I want to limit the “out” activities to 3-4 days per week (Tues-Thurs, and Sat). I need to have home days and friend days!
